Home/About Sandhurst Silver Band

SSB On Stage 2009Founded in 1908, Sandhurst Silver Band is a contesting band currently competing in the 1st section.  Funding comes from a mix of members’ subs, payment for engagements and concerts, and grants and donations from firms, councils and individuals.  The band is registered charity no. 1086272. Our aims are defined in the band’s constitution as “To maintain, improve and advance the education of the public through the promotion and practice of brass band music”. This we do by providing facilities for existing players to rehearse and perform for the public, by entering competitions which stimulate players to improve their musical standards, and by offering tuition from the ground up for learners of all ages in the training band.

We stage public concerts several times a year, featuring a mix of light and more serious music, and we are available for hire year-round for fetes, bandstand engagements and private gatherings.  All our players give their time for free – income goes to cover expenses such as purchase and maintenance of instruments and uniforms, and rates for the bandroom. Please contact us if you’re interested in hiring the band, sponsoring an event or making a donation.

Joining the band

Membership of the band is open to anyone, without discrimination on grounds of age, gender, race etc.  Beginners and players who have not yet attained the standard required to play at the level of the main band are offered the opportunity to develop their skills within our non-contesting band, Sandhurst Community Brass.  Please contact us if you are interested in joining either band.  Current vacancies in the main band are advertised on this website’s Vacancies page, and also through 4barsrest.com classifieds and the bandsman.co.uk mailing list.
